BUSINESS NEWS

  • Amazon bought 20 acres in Bel Aire to build a new last mile delivery station. The 176,000 square-foot facility in Sunflower Commerce Park is expected to create 100 direct and indirect jobs and will be completed in late 2025 — its third plant in the Greater Wichita Metro Area.  KNSS

CRIME NEWS

  • The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for help to solve a nearly 37-year-old cold case after 19-year-old Michael Fowler was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds in the 9000 block of North Oliver on September 14th, 1988 - detectives said the last person to see him alive was Eddie Jason Coolinge and that acquaintance Daryl Weaver was linked to him, urging anyone with information to contact Detective Cody Rexroat or call Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.  KWCH

CULTURE NEWS

  • Wichita’s iconic Exploration Place will mark its 25th anniversary next month with a birthday party on April 3 and a weekend of special events; its president Adam Smith said the center will update exhibits with simple, hands-on activities and open a new outdoor playscape this fall—aiming to boost local tourism.  KMUW
  • Connie Palacioz turned 100 and still volunteers at the B-29 Hangar where she once worked as a riveter—she joined Boeing in Wichita at 17 and helped build a bomber during World War II. She continues to inspire local women to pursue their dreams with her story and legacy.  KWCH

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Downtown Wichita hosted thousands of fans for the NCAA tournament last week, boosting the local economy with an estimated $4.3 million in spending that supported wages and business revenue. WSU economist Craig Compton said over 14,000 out-of-town visitors helped drive growth—spurring increased tips and tax earnings.  KSN

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Late Wednesday morning, Wichita’s air quality fell to 159 because smoke from Oklahoma increased particulate matter and made conditions unhealthy for sensitive groups. The city advised residents to choose less strenuous outdoor activities and shorten their time outside as conditions may continue into the evening.  KWCH
