COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Wichita-based Holy Kingdom of Judah is set to hold a voluntary gun buyback aimed at reducing violence and promoting peace on March 30 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at its office at 1741 N. Poplar — participants may receive $20 to $300 per firearm.  The Voice

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At a Mar. 11 Kansas Board of Regents meeting, Wichita State shared its report showing 13,000 students earned $40 million through applied learning and that its NIAR programs created 2,600 new jobs since 2019; the report also noted strong engineering research and a Biomedical Campus opening in spring.  The Sunflower

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Kansas lawmakers signed a law banning personal cellphone use in classrooms next school year, requiring students to power off and store devices (school-issued devices remain allowed), and a driving measure will restrict handheld phone use in high-risk zones starting July 1 with warnings first and fines from July 1, 2027.  The Voice

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Sunday, Wichita State Shockers won 96-70 over Oklahoma State with Kenyon Giles scoring 28 points. The team, now on a six-game winning streak, will face Tulsa in the NIT semifinals.  KWCH
  • Basketball fans in Wichita cheered as Kansas teams battled in a full slate of games yesterday, Mar. 22. The matchups excited supporters and set the stage for a competitive season.  KWCH
  • Fans visited Wichita sports bars Sunday night to watch live games and cheer for their teams. Several venues reported busy evenings as local supporters gathered for a strong display of community sports pride.  KWCH
  • KU fell to St. John's on a buzzer-beater shot that ended the game in its final seconds; local fans watching at sports bars saw the dramatic finish and are still discussing the tight contest.  KWCH
