- ➤ Residents south of Valley Center have raised concerns as drivers take detours from the roundabout construction on Meridian, causing speeding and dust on 61st Street. City officials urged drivers to follow the updated detour maps instead of misinterpreted business signage while the project is expected to finish in June or July — clear signage is needed to direct traffic properly. - ➤ A 23-year-old man, Michael Angel Gonzalez, was charged Wednesday on counts of burglary, criminal desecration, theft and property damage after police discovered extensive damage—including spray-painted hate speech and a burned American flag—at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in north Wichita on Saturday, and he is held on a $500K bond. - ➤ A woman named Tasha Dillard was charged with first-degree murder and seven counts of aggravated child endangerment after her alleged shooting killed 7-year-old Davion Gunter in south Wichita (the incident occurred at the 3700 block of East Ross Parkway on March 16 at about 12:30 a.m.) where several adults and children were present and the children were placed in protective custody. - ➤ Today, McConnell Air Force Base will begin controlled burns near 47th Street South and Rock Road at 8 a.m. Weather permitting— the burns will move west toward Oliver through the weekend as the Air Force works with the McConnell Fire Department to remove excess vegetation. KSN
- ➤ Lawmakers in Kansas approved a bill in House committee today to change the definition of neglect so that poverty is no longer a reason for removing children from their homes (affecting more than 5,600 foster kids). Supporters say the measure (viewed as a first step to reducing unnecessary removals) will return to the Senate next year and that further investments in prevention services are needed. The Beacon

- ➤ Today the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America ranked Wichita as most challenging for seasonal allergies—citing high tree and grass pollen, increased allergy medication use and a lower number of specialists. The ranking uses data from the 100 largest metropolitan areas and places cities like New Orleans, Oklahoma City and Tulsa just behind Wichita. KNSS
