- ➤ The Red Cross held a disaster training exercise for Wichita volunteers on Saturday, Mar. 7 to improve emergency preparedness, a session that focused on practical response skills. KWCH
- ➤ The Smash for a Cause event raised funds for the new Oxford House in Wichita on Mar. 7. Local organizers said the effort supports safe and supportive housing in our community. KWCH
- ➤ Run It Forward, Run Wichita's program, used donated shoes to properly fit over 50 kids including the Wichita West High track team at an event this past weekend at Fartleks & donations are welcome at 535 W. Douglas or during Saturday morning Parkrun at Exploration Place. Wichita By E.B.

- ➤ EF-1 tornadoes moved through Sumner county Thursday (emergency crews responded) and local officials are monitoring conditions for lingering hazards. KWCH
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ A Southeast High senior earned a $50,000 Overcoming Adversity scholarship to attend Wichita State University after meeting GPA and essay requirements. She plans to study psychology and sees this as a milestone after overcoming homelessness. KWCH
- ➤ Storytime Village hosted the Shine Girls Summit at Wichita State University on Friday where middle school girls listened to local leaders including basketball legend Lynette Woodard, sparking leadership and storytelling during Women’s History Month ahead of Saturday’s Shine Awards. KWCH
- ➤ WSU will launch the HIRES program to provide paid internships for humanities majors, funded by a $2.5 million Mellon Foundation grant for 5 years. The program offers internship course credit and builds local partnerships (including with the Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum) to expand career opportunities. The Sunflower
- ➤ The Student Senate unanimously approved a bill on March 4 to let WSU students request up to $100 annually for local transportation on funded trips—covering bus fares and ride-sharing services within 50 miles of their lodging. The Sunflower
