COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Wichita veterinarians are easing pet stress with calmer vet visits this week, while Harvester Arts and Neighboring Movement have secured affordable artist studios in a former law office south of Kellogg — setting the stage for creative work.  KMUW
  • Starlite Drive-In reopened for the season on Friday after severe thunderstorms, with staff monitoring weather closely to ensure guest safety+ visitors may use indoor shelter if storms hit during movies while the drive-in remains committed to welcoming families rain or shine.  KWCH
  • Storytime Village is hosting the Shine Girls Summit to offer local girls hands-on activities and interactive talks. The event will take place soon (details pending) in our community.  KWCH

CULTURE NEWS

  • Young photographers from Wichita schools will share their stories in the annual Weapons of Choice contest. Photos will be exhibited at WSU’s Ulrich Museum from March 10 to 29 with an awards ceremony on March 28 plus an opening reception on March 14 at the Kansas African American Museum.  The Voice

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A Southeast High School student received a $50,000 scholarship from WSU—announced Mar. 6—to help pay for college.  KWCH
  • A resolution to add an honorary A+ was introduced at Wichita State’s Student Senate meeting on Wednesday, with Liberal Arts Senator Josh Mallard calling it a stepping stone for future GPA changes. The measure, which is nonbinding, was supported by 85% of 309 surveyed students (a solid show of interest), and students can share their thoughts at weekly public forums.  The Sunflower
  • The Wichita State Student Fees Commission proposed cutting six fee entities and partially reducing seven more in its fiscal 2027 budget (totaling $221,193 and $334,878 respectively) to trim funding for select scholarships and services. The commission will present the proposal to the Student Senate on March 11 for further discussion.  The Sunflower

  • The Kansas Department of Revenue warned Wichita residents about a text and phone scam that claims unpaid traffic violation fees will cause license suspension and legal trouble. The department urges anyone receiving such messages to delete them and call (785) 296-3671 for help.  KWCH
  • A report from the Center for Addiction Science, Policy, and Research said Kansas and Missouri got poor marks on online sports betting rules because they allow non-stop access and have no limits on losses. The report calls on lawmakers to add loss caps and ban credit card deposits.  The Beacon

  • Wichita-area vets are adopting Fear Free techniques to ease pet anxiety during clinic visits. Clinics like Wichita Pet Wellness use soft colors, calming music, and gentle handling to help pets feel more comfortable while getting care.  KMUW
