  • Farmers in Mulvane are facing steep cost hikes as dry fertilizer has jumped $240 per ton since Christmas and diesel fuel increased by fifty cents amid global supply challenges; Curt Hoobler said these rises are straining peak season planting needs from February through May.  KWCH

  • Student Joseph Robertson contests his removal from WSU Formula SAE and Baja SAE at the SGA Supreme Court, claiming he was expelled without proper notice after warning about a club shop safety hazard. FINANCE NEWS

  • The Kansas Department of Insurance said storm claims topped $850 million in 2025 (with Sedgwick County accounting for over $300 million). Local insurance brokers urge residents to review their policies before severe weather arrives.  KWCH

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A tornado siren malfunction caused confusion early today when sirens went off across Wichita as a tornado warning was tracked in Sumner County around midnight. Sedgwick County Emergency Management is investigating the chain reaction that triggered the sirens in Derby and the city.  KWCH

HEALTH NEWS

  • K-State's Johnson Cancer Research Center is investigating higher cancer rates in Ellsworth, Russell, and Lincoln counties after detecting elevated radon and mineral levels in private wells. Researchers plan to expand testing while Lincoln officials consider hosting town hall meetings to address community concerns.  KWCH

SPORTS NEWS

  • Washburn coach Brett Ballard, riding a 195-80 record (including 58-5 in the past two seasons), led his team to a 28-1 season that secured the MIAA Conference title and will now aim for their first conference tournament win since 2021.  KWCH
