COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Sedgwick County Zoo announced that Stingray Cove returns for its final season beginning on March 13 and running daily through October. Visitors can touch the southern stingrays for free if they are Zoo members or pay about $4 to $5 for a feeding.  Wichita By E.B.
  • More than 100 residents gathered at Colwich Elementary Monday night to ask about potential data center sites in western Sedgwick County (areas include spots near Andale, Garden Plain, and Clearwater). Organizers expressed concerns about high water usage and unclear land purchases.  FOX Kansas

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • ICT Trees will give away 100 free trees to homeowners, churches, and businesses on Apr. 11 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Emporia Park. The organization received a grant from Evergy to plant trees in urban heat island areas (which may lower temperatures by up to 12 degrees) and invites interested participants to apply.  KWCH

  • Wichita Forward expressed surprise and hope after a local sales tax measure did not pass yesterday; the group said it will explore alternative funding options for new community projects + future improvements.  KWCH
