  • The Sedgwick County Fire Department announced the unexpected passing of retired Captain Steve Atkinson, who was a scuba diver on the water rescue team until 2017.  KWCH
  • Volunteers, including members from the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, installed free smoke alarms in Wichita homes as part of the American Red Cross's 'Sound the Alarm' safety initiative.  KWCH

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A temporary memorial for the 67 victims of a midair collision involving Flight 5342 will be removed from Wichita's Eisenhower Airport, with efforts underway for a permanent tribute.  KWCH
  • One individual was critically injured in a hit-and-run collision near downtown Wichita, as confirmed by Sedgwick County Emergency Communications.  KWCH

CRIME NEWS

  • The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office is seeking assistance to locate Nevaeh Ann Thompson, who fled a traffic stop and injured a deputy.  KWCH

  • The Kansas African American Museum, slated to move to a new downtown Wichita location, announced a $250,000 grant from Bank of America for renovations and presented updates on its expansion and new exhibits, including the Dockum Sit-in Immersive Experience.  The Voice
