  • New leadership at the Boys & Girls Club Opportunity Drive unit aims to rebuild community ties in northeast Wichita by partnering with local schools and expanding programs for youth. Unit Director Aaron Roberts and his team plan to enhance school-year + summer programming to better serve local families.  The Voice
  • Wichita-area swim teams completed a 100-mile challenge for the Make-A-Wish Foundation on Feb. 27 — an effort that showcased local teamwork and spirit.  KWCH

CULTURE NEWS

  • Disney on Ice is at INTRUST Bank Arena this weekend featuring scenes from Frozen and Encanto. The production employs over 100 cast members (including Matty Cangelose) as part of a global tour.  KWCH

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Wichita school buses are now using AI cameras, raising privacy concerns among parents and educators. Officials are reviewing measures to protect student data & adjust policies as needed.  KWCH
  • Kansas FFA raised $103,000 after its 24-hour Give FFA Day fundraiser on Thursday in Manhattan, surpassing its $50,000 goal to support local agricultural education programs with donations from all 105 counties. The funds will provide grants, scholarships, and support for ag teachers statewide.  KWCH
  • Wichita State's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is proposing a $1.5 million budget cut and administrative consolidation to reduce spending while keeping academic programs unchanged. Meetings with department chairs will begin on Monday, March 2, with changes effective July 1 — no staff moves are planned.  The Sunflower

HEALTH NEWS

  • Wichita nonprofit Kansas Birth Justice Society (aiming to reduce maternal disparities) is training doulas to support Black mothers amid higher pregnancy risks, building on a 2024 Medicaid amendment. More than 200 doulas are in training, and advocates like Shaunita Phillips and the late Melody McCray-Miller have helped reduce health disparities.  KWCH
