- ➤ A Wichita plane made an emergency landing on Sunday when a lithium ion battery in a cell phone caught fire; expert William Haworth advises that batteries which overheat or lose charge quickly be serviced to prevent similar incidents. KWCH
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Great Plains Transportation Museum in Wichita announced Monday that it raised an extra $50,000 from generous supporters to restore historic Santa Fe locomotive 93, which is in Kansas City for repair and scheduled for completion in spring or early summer. KWCH
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The USDA began enrollment for Farmers Bridge Assistance on Monday, Feb. 23 to help Kansas row crop producers with $11 billion + $1 billion available for other commodities; applications close on April 17. KWCH
- ➤ Wichita announced on Monday that Fire Chief Tammy Snow—who served nearly 40 years and became the first female chief since the department was founded—will retire in August; the city will begin a national search for her successor. KWCH
- ➤ The Kansas House passed a bill requiring Narcan in public schools — now heading to the state senate as community groups call for added recovery and health supports since many schools already carry the drug. KWCH
- ➤ The Student Government Association finance commission will hold student fee budgeting hearings at 9:30 a.m. on March 2 to review requests for FY 2027—running from July 1 to June 30—in a public event, with further deliberations on March 5 and a budget vote on March 11 at the Rhatigan Student Center.
