  • A Wichita roofing company was banned from working in the state after it engaged in deceptive business practices, state regulators said.  KWCH

  • Grammy-winning vocalist Roy Moy III will offer singing telegrams in Wichita this Valentine's Day weekend. He plans live and virtual performances featuring classics like Elvis' 'Can't Help Falling In Love' with a special red velvet jacket style to add extra romance.  KMUW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The woodshop at Wichita Heights High School will be upgraded with new equipment and concrete floors following a $280,000 renovation approved by the school board — improving safety and hands-on training for students aiming for careers in trades like carpentry and CNC machine work.  KMUW
  • Wichita State’s School of Engineering was ranked first in aerospace research and ninth overall by the National Science Foundation, with chair Gary Brooking noting the boost from NIAR (National Institute for Aviation Research) and industry partnerships that support students in aerospace and cybersecurity.  The Sunflower

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Thursday, state lawmakers held a hearing on Senate Bill 497, which would reclassify kratom as a Schedule 1 drug + a subsequent hearing is scheduled for Monday.  KWCH
  • The Wichita RiverWalk Cleanup Crew asked city council to ease paid parking restrictions that limit access to key cleanup zones along the Arkansas River. The group will propose parking-free hours and special volunteer tags and is set to meet on Feb. 14 at the corner of Seneca and McClean.  KWCH
  • Residents in Andale and Garden Plain say they were blindsided by plans for a NextEra Energy data center that is moving forward despite Sedgwick County's recent 90-day pause on new applications (neighbors remain concerned about the project defying county rules).  FOX Kansas

  • Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach visited Wichita State on Wednesday to install a naloxone box in the Rhatigan Student Center near Starbucks that provides free kits to treat overdoses. The installation is one of 40 planned statewide to boost access and save lives.  The Sunflower
  • Dietitian Jordan at Via Christi offers heart-healthy grocery tips for American Heart Month, advising shoppers to choose fruits, vegetables, lean proteins + low-sodium seasonings and oils to help manage cholesterol. The guidance aims to support better heart wellness in Wichita.  KWCH

  • The Andover Central cheer team won its first national championship last month — finishing a season led by eight senior captains and coach Desirae Moreno. Their win sets a new milestone for future competitions.  KWCH
