EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Catholic Diocese of Wichita will allow families to claim religious exemptions from vaccine requirements in 41 schools starting this fall, officials said in a letter sent last week. Opposition has grown and an online petition has emerged & some parents are questioning the task force's decision.  KWCH

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Kansas Department for Children and Families announced that applications for the Low Income Energy Assistance Program are accepted from Jan. 20 through 5 p.m. on March 31. Applicants need income proof and heating bills to qualify (eligibility is for households at or below 150% of the federal poverty level).  KNSS

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Catholic Diocese of Wichita announced changes to its vaccine policy on Jan. 21, 2026 to update health protocols for church gatherings. Members are encouraged to review the new guidelines as they prepare for upcoming services — further details will be provided shortly.  KWCH
  • A young chimp underwent surgery after a social mishap injured its foot and caused the loss of two front teeth at Sedgwick County Zoo. The animal care team acted quickly today to treat the two-year-old chimp (Alizeti) and support its recovery in the zoo's animal hospital.  FOX Kansas

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Wichita City Council honored the Friends University Falcons at a Tuesday meeting by issuing a certificate for their historic 2025 football season. The team secured 12 wins, retained the KCAC Championship, and set a new NAIA rushing yards record en route to the NAIA quarterfinals.  FOX Kansas
  • Wichita State beat East Carolina for its second consecutive AAC win, boosting the team's confidence for upcoming games. The match showcased strong teamwork and performance on the court.  KWCH
