About this event

Homeschool families with children ages 6 to 13 years old are invited to our new series called Homeschool: Who Was...? "With over 250 titles, Penguin's Who Was? series tells the incredible stories of trailblazers, legends, innovators, and creators." Based on the wildly popular series, children will choose 1 historical figure to learn about and tell their story through a short, relaxed presentation to their peers. In doing so, homeschool children will have a chance to utilize NPL's collection, resources, and Librarians to work on their project! This is a fun and dynamic project, so we will be hosting workshops for children to gather, chat, and work on their projects. The Children's Coordinator, Sara Rickard and Teen Librarian, Maggie Hairabedian will lead combined events each month from August - December. Register for the Kick-Off event and you will not need to register for September-December. Kick-Off event: Tuesday, August 18th at 1PM. Sara and Maggie will introduce the project. Homeschool kids will have a chance to look through the Who Was series at the library and (potentially) choose their historical figure! We will host our workshops at 1 PM on the first Tuesday of each month, September - December. September 1: Information gathering (library books and NPL resources like Children's Britannica Library) October 6: Practice their story. Kids will have a chance to practice talking about their historical figure before their presentation in December. We'll also play the "Who am I?" game. November 3: Visual story telling (create a poster, a short story, work on a costume, props, etc.) December 1: Brief presentation of historical figures! Homeschool families are invited to join us for the final presentation. December 2: Brief presentation of historical figures! Homeschool families are invited to join us for the final presentation.
